LA GALLERY UNDER CONSTRUCTION 〰️

Following three decades of exhibitions and the culmination of our 30th anniversary program, we arrived at a clear conclusion: the constraints of a fixed white cube no longer serve the evolving nature of our curatorial vision. We have officially departed our West Hollywood space and are embracing a nomadic model, allowing for greater curatorial freedom, experimentation, and responsiveness to context. As we continue to operate throughout Los Angeles and beyond, this transitional phase reflects a strategic shift—one rooted in adaptability, critical engagement, and future-facing practice. Central to this evolution is our commitment to building cultural bridges between artists working outside the United States and the broader contemporary art discourse.

Marsea Goldberg is the first and last bohemian in an aristocratic classist art industry. First and foremost, she is an artist who has always had the vision to bring various creative genres to the forefront of culture. She is a sensitive cult leader (Cancer/Leo) to the youth and those who have generally been ignored by the blue-chip art world. Looking through NIA’s archive, it becomes clear that Goldberg is driven by ingenuity and soul rather than commerce and trends. There is a reason why this gallery is known as the artist’s art gallery and has been able to stand the test of time. Goldberg adapts to the ever-changing paradigm shifts, always being grounded by her ethos of balance and futurism. Not to mention she worked with Jennifer Coolidge on Melrose at FLIP Super Thrift in the 80s and is an active surfer to this day. She is the amalgamation of Wabi Sabi, the 70s surf CA vibes, and chaos. Goldberg is a pillar of the contemporary art scene, working in a gallery in the 80s in Africa, bringing queer figures and performance art in the 90s, along with the mission school, skateboard culture, and graffiti. Bleeding into the 20’s with contemporary art of the now, along with the millennium ceramics movement. She is the Azealia Banks of the art world, bringing populace, transgressive, and evocative curation to her gallery. It is no small feat of the door that she opened and has sustained to this very day to the freaks and to the artists of all creeds before they were commodified by commercial entities. The gallery is a portal, and Marsea Goldberg is the catalyst.

Director: Mariel Eplboim

Mariel Eplboim is the Director of New Image Art and has been with the gallery for ten plus years. She is an outlier in the hyper-capitalist luxury sport of art and believes that there is an imperative responsibility in curation and bringing forth new voices to culture. As the harbinger of truth, she has brought numerous unique and compelling voices to the gallery and gave the following artists their first exhibitions in Los Angeles; Sharif Farrag, Queleasha Wood, Kat Lyons, Karla Ekatherine Canseco, Jeffrey Cheung, Clifford Prince King, among plenty others. As a psychic tastemaker, she keeps the ship running at NIA with her ethos that contemporary art should reflect contemporary culture no matter its hierarchy. If you want to unlock the future of the art market and understand the ever-changing curatorial landscape, she is the one and only Valley Girl to call.

ARCHIVE OF THE INNER WORKINGS OF NIA

Theresa Chromati had her first exhibition at New Image Art Gallery. Marsea Goldberg felt drawn to Chromati like a magnet when she was exhibiting at the Printed Matter Art Fair in 2016. Goldberg introduced herself and said, “I’m Feeling something here.” and thats how history was made. One example if the pure spirit of New Image Art.
