Los Angeles (September 11, 2012) — New Image Art Gallery is pleased to present “Here Comes Purple,” a solo exhibition by Los Angeles artist Megan Whitmarsh. In her third solo with New Image Art, Whitmarsh will exhibit sculpture, wall pieces and giant fabric collage. Working primarily in textiles, her re-fabrication of cultural and personal ephemera results in a rueful yet bold kind of Pop art.

Whitmarsh seeks to make her process seen in the work itself. Her process views failure and success as coexisting elements. The work acknowledges the repetitiveness of culture yet still finds a compulsion to create, to be original, and to seek meaning; even if this meaning is arbitrary, personal or constantly shifting. Whitmarsh describes her work as, “an organizing of cultural and personal ephemera, which is my reckoning of the overwhelming yet compelling aspects of the universe. I want to make “new” things that admit their history.”

The opening reception for “Here Comes Purple,” takes place Saturday, September 22 at New Image Art Gallery from 6pm-9pm, and is open to the public. The exhibition will be on view through October 20, 2012.
